AH-D2000 yes in your face with music, clear seperations, apart from the mids which can be abit soft at times. But a worser soundstage, doesnt feel any surroundness. And tend to be bass oriented... Listening to the music is like your mind will detect the bass track is abit higher volume, and more presense. Thats what i focused on more...

I'd say yes, they do sound fairly similar.

The D2000 is a mix between Ultrasone and Sennheiser. It's not as dark as Sennheiser but not as colored as the Ultrasone. In its stock form, it's bass-oriented, has slightly recessed mids, reasonably smooth high but with a treble spike in the 10kHz region which contributes to sibilance. However, overall sound is pretty balanced which makes it an enjoyable listen. Very picky to amplification as well as current-hungry. My main problem is its slowness which is fine by me but YMMV.

The Denon 2000 is much better, IMHO. Bass is less boomy, it's tighter and more precise, yet it has real power.

I have to disagree slightly. while the denon does improve with good amplification, it is not a really hard can to drive. In a crunch, you can get good sound right out of an ipod hp jack. It is not even close to being as hard to drive as a senn or akg.

I would actually agree with you on that. What I mean is matching a proper amp for it is actually a tricky affair.

agreed!! I hear people are having a lot of success with some of the Hybrid amps, like the EF1 from head direct. Seems to give some just the right mix of tubyness, with the solid state punch. Hmmmm.. I may be ordering the qinpu A3, see how it does with my stax setup, then denons.
