I've just brought a Denon DCP-100.. still yet to recieve it but i think i'll be content with it.. i'm just curious is all.. what is the difference between the DCP-100 and 150.. does anyone know!? do they share the same electronics to a point.. is it just an uprated power supply setup for the 150 over the 100 or does it have a different DAC?

Just curious, i saw a link on here that someone posted once that had the DAC the 150 used.. not sure if the same is known for the 100, or whether it uses the same chip.

I know the alleged differences in sound between the two are that the 150 is slightly more detailed, perhaps more "correct" and linear.. where as the 100 is supposed to be fun to listen to (with all the potential colourings that perhaps lead to this illusion) .. Both i believe are supposed to be good players so i'm hoping to be happy.. for one i'm hoping its line out is good as i also have brought one of the top Sonys for headphone out, the D211...

Cheers

You are correct in stating that the DCP-100 is more of a fun sounding PCDP than the DCP-150 as the DCP-150 is more accurated and detailed of the two. Don't let that sway you into thinking that the DCP-100 isn't an accurate and detailed sounding PCDP because it is. You maybe surpised how detailed and accurate sounding it is when you have the chance to compare it with your D-211.

Some of the differences between the DCP-150 and DCP-100 are:

The DCP-150 uses dual 18 bit dacs while the DCP-100 uses a single 16 bit dac and both use diffferent types of dacs.

The DCP-150 has a digital line out while the DCP-100 doesn't

As a complete package the DCP-150 also came with a remote control while the DCP-100 didn't

The DCP-150 has bass boost and the DCP-100 doesn't

I also think the DCP-150's electronics might be a little different than that of the DCP-100 but I'm not 100% positive on that as I've never opened the two that I have and do a comparison. For more info on DAC specs of the DCP-150 and DCP-100 check the link bealow:

The DCP-150 uses dual 18 bit dacs while the DCP-100 uses a single 16 bit dac and both use diffferent types of dacs.

Actually, the DCP-150 uses a single AD1868 dac whereas the DCP-100 uses two separate Burr Brown PCM66 like the Sony 555 along with the Sony CXD2551 for oversampling.

DCP-150 has better dynamics but the stereo-field is better on the DCP-100

obsoletemachines is correct. It is the DCP-100 that has dual DACs whereas the DCP-150 has a single DAC.
