I am looking for feedback from Denon D5000 owners regarding recable their headphones.
Do you have them recabled?
What aftermarket cable are you using?
What are the changes in the sound after being recabled?

Thanks for the infromation.

musicman actually posted in that thread but it's overrun with D2000 owners, guess he wants D5000 owners though I don't think many have recabled the D5000's better cable.

You are right RXC. Nobody as posted anything about a recable D5000 in that thread. Just Tin_ears posted he hard wired his to the amplifier using the stock cable.

I'm curious on this too - my cable has the white cotton (?) stuffing sticking through already, despite being babied. Something more robust (obviously with sound quality improvement) would be appreciated. . .

Nope, I didn't do any recabling.
I don't see the point since the stock cable is pretty good by itself.
IMHO, It would be more worthy to recable a D2000 than a D5000.

If a D2000 has the same drivers as the D5000 and a recabled D2000 sounds like a D5000, then recabling the D5000 is the same as a recabled a D2000. Meaning the stock D5000 is already at its best.

There are a few things a D5000 owner can try, before paying big bucks for a recable.

1. Dissasseble the cups and remove the fabric membrane over the transducers.

2. While they are apart, you can also remove the metal, protective grill that covers the transducer.

3. If you are using a HP amp with a 1/4 inch plug, you can eliminate the 1/8th inch plug and resolder a high quality 1/4 on to the cable. Cardas appears to make a good one.

4. While you have the plug off, cut about 3 ft off the length of the cable. This eliminates any tangling issues and probably sounds better, given the very small gauge of wire used.
