Hello.

I bought The d2000 here from a head-fi member (with jmoney leather pads) and they sound great! I absolutely love it.

I have read that there are recabling options which suppose to improve the quality (or is it a myth?

).
The question is - what is the best option?
Is there a real difference between mogami, jenna wire, cardas, Dragons (Silver, blue , black), double helix ect... ?

Thank you.

...or is the D5000 upgrade good enough? I'm also interested in everyone's thoughts and directions on this topic.

A myth ??.......... YES !!
Why buy a cable of 180 dollars ?
The stock cables are fine (some maybe to long) but the quality is good.
I've seen the Cardas cables for very much money......................
i don't think you will hear a difference

I did recabling myself. Bought 5 meters of silver plated copper cable with nutrik mini jack. An hour of fun with soldering and... difference is quite noticeable to my ears. I would recommend to go for it. But HiEnd cable..... don't know. I will never pay big $$$ for 5% of improvement.

Assume cables make a 10% difference (which is generous). Now look at the prices of these high end cables. Why would you pay 50% or more of the price of your headphones for a 10% difference? Buying a new headphone or better amp is gonna make a much bigger difference for the money.

And some people believe cables don't change the sound at all.

Only true head-fiers know that Pink Floyd is the best music with a good pair of headphones.

Go with a D5000/D7000 recable, much cheaper and on par with many of the high end recables.

Others here have suggested that the improvement with recable is nearly negligible vs. the cost of the cable.

While I haven't had any experience with the D2000, I recabled my D1001, and the improvement was extremely significant. Much more than 10% difference.

It seems to me from the testimonies of others who have recabled their D2000's that the Denon cables are not to be trusted.

While I might agree with you in other cases, you should realize that Denons seem to be a special case.
The cable seems to be exceptionally bad in the D2000, and the improvement from recabling is very significant according to testimonies.

EDIT: err, I want to make it clear. I don't believe in overpriced cables either. You should consider having a member do it for you. If it were me, I would do it myself.

Another point:
The D2000, D5000, and D7000 all have the same drivers. The difference between them is the housing, and the cable. I am not an expert in housing, and I can't really make a statement about whether or not the housing is enough to make a $200 headphone into an $800 headphones.
But, in any case, it seems like Denon is almost purposefully shipping the D2000 with a lesser cable, and selling it with a lower price.

Agreed, D2000 stock cable is AWFUL. The D5000/D7000 cable on the other hand is EXCEPTIONAL. It's weird that Denon would make such a huge leap between cables.

D2000/D5000 have the same drivers, D7000 does not. The only difference between D2000/D5000 is cable and housing, between D7000 and D5000 is the coating and lettering on the housing (same wood/shape), and the SHEATH of the cable, the cable itself is identical, the major difference between the two is the driver itself.

I could've sworn I read that the drivers were the same.

I think someone else must've wrongfully said it somewhere.
Thanks for the correction.
