Denon D2000/D5000, MD2000/MD5000 Thread!

I currently have a pair of Wood Cupped D2000 headphones that I really enjoy. when I received them, the wood cups were worn a little and in poor shape, I have since worked on them and made them look great again. My question is, I was considering upgrading to the D5000, however I would like to keep the dampened wood cups tat I refinished, are you able to use the same size cup on the D5000 that you have on the D2000?

Thanks,
James

to fit the D5000 cups on a D2000 HP you need to drill  7mm holes in the cups from what i saw in this link .you would need to fill the whole up ,maybe by making a wood peg using a drill and bringing the peg down to the right size and gluing it in there that would solve it                                               http://www.totallydubbed.net/2012/03/30/denon-ah-d2000-wood-cup-installation-guide/

For someone with a Denon AH-D2000, would the Level 1 upgrade from Lawton Audio be pretty much the only update? I had also considered changing the cord because mine has a short near the phone connector.

There are multiple upgrades to be had for the D2000 -

1. the Lawton damping is the most impactful from my experience.
2. wood cups - which are NOT the same between the D2000 and the D5K/D7K models.  As Mikelap noted, they can interchange but you're better off getting the correct fit up front.
3. wire changes - I only changed my cable for the flexibility and ergonomics, not for sound, but it was worth it for what I wanted.  That said, the Q French Silk cable I had BTG Audio install on my LA7000 was worth it to me.
4. comfort - add a HD650 headband pad to the underside of the headband
5. pads - add Lawton angle pads.  You can also try other options including Stax 007 pads, Audeze Vegans or Lambskins or others but I prefer the Lawton angle pads.

I'm considering selling my D5000 because I don't use it. It has seen very little use and looks like it came brand new out of the box. The only thing is, I can't decide on an asking price. Can someone help me with this?

They have been selling for between $400-500 for stock units, more for custom cups.

I want to replace my D2000's headband but those screws are badly designed by Denon's engineer. They are so tight and easily damaged when they are unscrewed with a screw driver. Any ideas on getting a damaged screw off?

Not sure if a screw extractor kit is available that small but that's first idea.  Second would be to drill the head out.

Anyone know where I can find replacement screws (the screws that hold the cups) for the D2000?

1. find a wide, flat rubber band, place it on the screw head, push down as hard as you can with the screwdriver and try unscrewing.
2. try and find a flathead screwdriver that would fit exactly right in the screwhead, and try using that.
3. fit the plastic part of the headband into a vice (very carefully) make sure to pad the edges with something. get a flathead screwdriver and a hammer, try fashioning a slit in the screwhead that you could use with a flat screwdriver. practice great caution and if you feel the plastic may break - stop and give up, you dont want to make the damage any worse. ive only ever done this with sturdy amps and tough industrial speakers. never on a delicate kinda vintage headphone.
4. find someone with one of these (dont know the name of the thing in english) and see if he cant help you.

if the internet doesnt help, take one screw with you to show as an example and go to a hardware store. if they dont have it, see if they cant point you in the direction of a retailer or something, or anyone else who might. if theres an industrial area anywhere around you, chances are it may have one of those retailers who has everything, and will make you buy 50 cause he only deals in bulk...

Hey buddy.............don't be shocked if a LA7000 isn't much different than your full meal deal LAD5000.  With your young ears you might be able to tell the difference but.................

The bass with the D5000 is more emphasized.  If the current mods have not tamed the stock loose bass to an acceptable level, maybe the D7000 is the way to go, otherwise, nothing beats the modded D5000.  It is unique, and wonderful.
