Denon D2000/D5000, MD2000/MD5000 Thread!
May 26, 2012 at 12:34 AM Post #2,116 of 5,248
Hey guys. I'm torn between the D2000 and D5000.

I'm an electronic music lover and also generally bass heavy music, such as reggae. Already own the D1100 and like them so far.

I want to get a home pair with a portable usb/dac.

Basically, I like that the D2000 are much cheaper and people usually regard them as the better value.

I am willing to spend more if D5000 pairs well with a portable usb/dac like the fiio E17.

Most likely will not be investing in a dedicated desktop amp. So, assume all use will be with E17 or equivalent.

In that scenario, D2000 or D5000?

Thx in advance for the help.

I got a pair of d-5000 they  sound great if you like bass there great, but i would use them more for a home rig there big and when i got them i find them a bit loose on the head i wear a 7 5/8 hat size but i figure if your on the move or move around alot not so great. since then i got the level 2 from LAWTON AUDIO (MOD, PADS, AND WOOD CUPS ) and they are tighter on the head because of the thicker pads but they are also heavier bottom line good for home not so good on the move. I had the d-1001 and the bass is more present in the d-5000 actually everything is better with the 5000. thats why i bought those instead of  the senns, stax, grados.

I think you might have to try forums or else contact places like Lawton and ask them to ship overseas.

Would you Denon lovers say that the D2000 is a good all around headphone for music and watching movies ?.  I dont like overpowering bass, but i do want to hear it, from reading these have excellent bass from what i gather, so is it a good all arounder ?

This isn't a forum? :)

Unfortunately I'm not really aware of any other localised forums which are as useful as this one.  Figured that I can't be the only Aussie on here!  Hopefully someone will stumble upon this post...

As for shipping overseas from Lawton, it's an option, but I'd prefer someone closer to keep costs down.

I don't see it really. Not on paper at least. We can all form our own opinions after release. I predict a high rise in prices on used d5k and d7k in the near future...

Oh def! All those new cans are ugly! People are going to be paying a premium for the classy look of the DX000 series! Glad I got my D5000's already!

i just recently received my D2000s and I absolutely love them! Their soundstage and clarity completely blew my mind as my previous cans were the Sony XB500. They're perfect for stuff like Neil Young or Tragically Hip. I doubt I'll ever part with these.

I read from mmayer167's post that Fischer audio fa-003 pads / brainwavz hm5 pads(he also states that they're the same pads) sound great with the D2000's. Anyone have the same experience?? I have a D2000, all stock and I'll get the pads if they improve the sound. Mp4nation is selling the hm5 pads for $17/pair.

I don't know how those pads would even fit.  The only pads I've ever seen that will fit the Denons are the J$ Pads and Markl Angle Pads.
