Interested in where this poll will go -- I'm thinking about both of these.
Having said that, I know what "better" means to ME -- but what does better mean to you? Even going on strict sound quality is pretty subjective, depending on what the hearer is looking for.

I can't really rate because I have heard neither, but my gut feeling from reading other reviews/comments of the NE-7M and using the higher end C700 is that the C551 may not be in the same league as the NE-7M.
Even so, as kmhaynes point out, it's still a matter of what's "better" to you. You have your own personal preferences that will make one option fit better for your sound preferences. I wish I owned both and could describe both in detail to you to help you decide, but alas, I don't and can't. All I can suggest is to use the search button and read into both as much as possible. My gut feeling from reading some of this info already in my own searches is that the NE-7M is a better product. "Better" for you, I don't know.
