Denon AH-D9200 - 2018 Flagship - Impressions Thread

Are there some closed headphones that don't have this problem?
Sadly, no. Some of the best closed-back headphones that perform relatively well in imaging and staging include the Sennheiser HD 820, the Sony MDR-Z1R, and the ZMF Vérité Closed. The best of the bunch is the aforementioned HD 820, IMO - it produces brilliant imaging cues that are reminiscent of an open-back model.

With that being said, if a wide, deep, and accurate stage with precise imaging are aspects that you place great emphasis toward, and you don't need a closed-back, go for an open headphone instead.

Just got these yesterday and already I've identified the danger. These are in danger of replacing many of my other phones.
Yeah, I can relate to that. Since getting my own AH-D9200, it has remained at the top of my "Favorites" list. It's near-perfect for EDM, IMO. All I'd ask for, is a touch more mid-bass, but that can be easily rectified with an EQ. Everything else is simply perfect to my ears. :)

What would be a good set of open headphones to complement the D9200s? I just bought a set of Beyerdynamic T1.2s to have something open and airy sounding, thinking they might be better than the D9200s for classical, but while they may have less cup resonance in comparison, I still prefer the D9200s. Do I have to resign myself to only having one set of headphones?

Took the plunge and picked the Questyle CMA Twelve Master as my next Headphone Amplifier.. Coming from the fantastic CMA400i I hope this one will tick all the boxes for a long time... My AH-D9200 were magnificent with the CMA400i.. The Twelve therfore promises to be divine with them .. Fingers crossed 🍀

Depends on your setup. If you have a good setup maybe HD650, Focal Utopia or Stax 007/009. If you run mobile a good IEM like U12t/U18t or qdc Anole.

The 9200 have not really a completely contrary signature as they're very allround.

Looks like the leather dried out... looking at the cracking on the leather itsself.

I have seen this happen in well heated places in cold climates, like in Finland.. Another factor could be hairgel..

Still, should not happen like this though. I keep mine in a case when not used, and once in a while wipe the pads and headband.

Gotta be really careful with the wiping too- especially if using pre-saturated wipes. Took two years for the effects to reach full peeling but I wrecked pads & headband on two headphones using supposedly "gentle" wipes I had on hand at the time. (really I should have known better than to do that, but it's not always obvious which chemical will interact badly with whatever you are wiping)

Yes, you are right, The alcohol in the wipes are not a good thing..

I forgot to mention that..sorry. Only use microfibre cloths, and not too often either.
