So my Denon AH-D2000 have started acting up. Basically, there appears to be a loose wire in the headphone plug that causes audio to cut out for the right channel. The headphones are less than a year old (coming up in December) but I'm having a hell of a time finding out if I'm covered under the warranty.

Like any warranty by any company the language is written in a way that makes it sound like just about nothing is covered unless Denon says it is. So I'm asking here, has anyone had a similar issue and had Denon fix it for free?

One of the reasons I'm asking is because if it comes down to having to pay to have them recabled or just replacing them outright with something else I'm going to go for the latter. Haven't exactly decided which yet. Right now the two top contenders are either the 1964-T IEMs or Sennheiser HD 650's. They're pretty close in terms of price (once you account for getting anything other than the stock 1964-T plus moldings and the like) so I'm rather debating which to get.

I'd like advice on that as well. One caveat I need to throw in is I have yet to buy an AMP/DAC, which was actually my next planned purchase. I imagine the 1964-T's respond just fine to not being AMP-driven where I imagine the HD 650's would almost require it.

Sound signature wise, I really liked the my Denons. Maybe a little weak on the mids and just a little on the highs but over all I liked the sound and thought it felt rather warm. However, I'd be willing to try out something else.

The other headphones I currently have are a pair of UE700's, which I was going to replace with some better IEMs at some point anyway.

Budget if I do end up replacing (which may or may not happen) is a maximum of $500. I listen to lots of rock, jazz and some electronica but I also do a fair bit of orchestra/classical/symphony music, especially soundtracks. At this point I'm also going to insist that whatever headphones I buy they have a user-replaceable cable. I'm a little tired of having to send in headphones because a wire gets loose somewhere.

Current source is direct-out from my iMac. Depending on what happens I'll be buying an AMP/DAC later this year and the budget for that will be closer to $800.

Oh, and the primary use of my Denons was at home, at my desk listening to music but I also loved them for gaming. When I'm at home, I don't NEED isolation but to some degree I'd prefer a bit, which is one reason I'm a bit hesitant to get the Sennheisers. I'd actually see if I could find a set of AH-D5000's on eBay or somewhere else except for the non-user-replaceable cables.

Let me know what you guys think.

Given Denon the benefit of the doubt and contact your nearest dealer, chances are that they will honor the warranty.

The nearest service center told me they don't service headphones and to call Denon... I'm going to have to try tomorrow so I can get them before they close. Gotta love 7PM closing on the East Coast when you live on the West Coast.

Got through to Denon. They said to call the service center people... Luckily, this guy actually told me how to do that! Talked to someone at the service center and here's what I was told:

 - Fill out the SRA request, print out the form, print out my receipt, box it all up with my headphones, ship it to them.
 - They will do the repair as under-warranty (which will probably just mean replacing the unit outright).
 - They will ship it back to me.
 - Whole process will take max two weeks, probably 7-10 days or less.

So $10 to ship it to NJ, sure. Why not? Now all I need is to find a printer...

May be a good idea to publish the number and the site where you downloaded from so Denon owners have it

The SRA form can be found here:
http://www.panurgyoem.com/denon/denon.asp

Fill out the form and they give you the number and extension to call but basically it's this:
1-973-625-4056 ext. 254

Thanks Doug for posting that info. And TY Frank for asking him too!   My D2000's are doing the EXACT same thing as yours did.  The right is cutting out for like 5 to 10min er so, then it comes back for like 2 minutes.  Frustrating as hell!  I bought these back on June 20th, so their only 3mon old.
Did you receive replacements or did they fix them? If you can tell the dif.  And one last thing n ill shush, wheres the serial number on these things? I threw away the box that they came in :/

Remember that the only difference between the D2k and D5k is the cable and cups. If your cable goes out, take the opportunity to give yourself a cheap upgrade by buying the stock D5k cups/cable off someone who upgraded theirs. Or at the very least I'm sure someone here would be willing to buy your D2k for parts.
