I'll be listening to a wide variety of music with these, played through either a Marantz 2235 receiver or a Philips Magnavox CD discman, unamped. Which set of phones is the easier to drive with the discman? How does the sound compare between these two? I was close to pulling the trigger on the A700, but reading about the Denon has me at wit's end trying to make a decision.

Be careful that you've not read about the AD700s, rather than the A700s. Many a mistake has been made on these. The D1001s are easy to drive, and shouldn't be a problem. I'll let someone who's tried the A700s say more.

No, I meant A700. I need a closed back can.
