Denon AH-7200
Mar 25, 2017 at 7:08 AM Post #811 of 3,155
7200 shipped away. It just can't compete with the z1r or ether c in both price and performance.

ether c is $850-1000,
c flow is  $1300 to 1450
z1r is $1200 to $1500
7200 for $650-850.

With that said I feel the Shure 1540 is easily a better choice than the Denon 7200 and ether c in price per dollar and performance. The improvement doesn't warrant a price jump of 2x or 3x.

*1540 constantly goes for $200 to $350.

there isn't price per performance to say anymore when purchasing $500+ headphones. Same thing for daily cars vs. luxurious cars. People are willing to pay substantial amount of money for diminishing return.
Also Shure 1540s retail for $500 most time IIRC. It's a good headphone but not a cheap option compared to other budget friendly headphones. The prices that you have listed above are not so accurate.
Z1R retails for $2299 from authorized dealer, and I have never seen it drop below $1200-1500. It would be a hell lot more competitive if it is around this price range though.

Can someone post some pictures of the D7200 with pads removed, and a picture of the back of the pads?  I would very much appreciate it.  Thanks

I don't buy new to get ripped off. My prices are accurate for the used market on hifi shark.

My pair are boxed up for posting so can't take any pics, but there is one with the pads removed here (post #97): http://www.head-fi.org/t/810889/denon-ah-7200/90#post_13096388

Thanks for the link!  I read that they don't use an attachment ring, and was curious if the connection method would allow changing pads.  Can anyone shed some light?

No worries. Looking at the pics of the D7200 and the Fostex immediately below they look very similar (near identical attachment slots) so would assume they must be using a ring of some kind. Whether it is detachable or glued to the pads I'm not sure but hopefully another member will be able to confirm!

The black rings are detachable as separate parts.

Haven't find any used Z1R under $1500, would like to take one if there is a $1200 deal.

The pads twist and are on a ring and have slots. You can change to Lawton 0r Fostex pads easily. My review  is being published tomorrow and will update this board when I change the pads to try the Lawtons on them.

There are a lot of good quality lambskin pads around now, Lawton, Dekoni, ZMF, Mr Speakers......IMO they tune your prefs just as tube rolling, DAC/Amp and cable.  Which is why we all hear differently.

Thanks Frank, my Denon D7200 will be here this week, hope it has the reference flat sound as advertised.
