So i'm getting ready to buy the Denon AH-2000 headphones, and for months, it's been listed at around $230 on amazon.

Now I check today to get the details ready, and now amazon is listing them for the full msrp price of $350.

Here's the link.
Amazon.com: Denon AHD2000 High Performance Over-Ear Headphones: Electronics

Whats with the rather massive price hike? Since I would much rather pay the $230 is was selling for not too long ago.

Anyone know of any other sources where I could get them for around $230 still?
Maybe calling J&R and asking for $230? I just don't know what to do now

Thanks for the help.

I asked this about 2 or 3 weeks ago when I wanted to buy my d2000.

its not clear but there's speculation that denon is 'doing a web search' to find out who is selling below MAP prices and then spanking them for it ;(

I did get a pair for a close-to-discount price at jr.com. they may still haggle a bit but you have to call and ask.

otherwise, perhaps just vote with your wallet and refuse to buy them! tell the manuf that you don't like MAP pricing and mafia tactics.

I may not even keep my d2000 pair. I'm not really in love with their sound even though I was interested in some closed-designs for use at work.

Such a shame, i've been looking at these headphones for ages, heard such great things about them. And finally got some money laying around willing to burn.

Hopefully I can get j&r down on price so I can snag a warrenty, or just buy off the merchants who are still selling at the $200 mark.

Sorry for the double post, didn't see kovens post.
Haven't done any research into the srh840 headphones. But compared to the d2000, should I get those instead? Better quality I would assume?

likely, no one (real) is selling at $200 mark anymore.

go to resellerratings and verify. most have really negative reviews.

denon did a complete 'scan' alright.

thanks denon.

sigh ;(

fwiw, I got mine for $250 with free 2nd day shipping. that was the only 'deal' I could work with JR.

at least JR ships real honest brand new gear. never had a problem with JR (bought camera gear from them in the past also with no problems).

I honestly don't think the d2000 line is worth much more than approx $200. for my money, at least. I also have a hard time believing the hype that the 'woodies' version is any different in any real sense, other than cosmetics.

Yeah, the ones for around $200 look to most likely be fakes. Which I don't want the risk, and would also lose my warranty. And all the merchants who I could truest now are only selling at $350. So i'll have to pass on that. I'll look into the SRH840's which look nice. And get a warranty out of it also.

And if there are any Denon reps watching this, You just lost my sale.

many people have said that the SRH840 beats a stock d2000 in every way.

the good thing - is that there's nothing special or magical about the d2000 line (imho). so you CAN go elsewhere and find acceptable phones for better prices.

I just really didn't see anything high-end about these. the midrange seems wrong, the treble is harsh and the bass is boomy. at low volumes (for work) its ok but then again, almost anything sounds ok at lower volumes

don't sweat the 2000's. find another set in your budget. you aren't missing anything unique, here.
