my main gripe with my 7000 is their stock cable and plug, not only does it twist and annoys, but apparently the connection sucks as well, after comparing the 7000 to my dx 1000 on my triad audio Lisa III amp, i found the stock dx 1000 had much better synergy with lisa than the denon 7000, ( or at least its stock cable and plug) at first i thought it was the lisa but then i compared multipe headsets, including old vintage phones like koss pro 4aaa's and even they didnt have problems. what i am referring to with the 7000 stock cable and or plug is that it will clip at high volumes and distort very easily,, but this is only on certain tracks, my 7000 do not seem to have this problem with any of my other amp's, but my other amps arent as revealing and good as lisa either.

so what should i recable the 7000 with? or should i just replace the plug first and see if that fix's the problem? i do think it may be the plug, who knows, the main thing i worry about recabling all together is that i will loose thickness or punch or depth, another concern of mine is which metal to get, for the denon would a silver cable be best considering their already very warm, or would a mix be better. is it best to go all copper for phones or just vary.

any suggestions

thanks

I think the stock cable is pretty descent. I just cut off the original plug and re-terminate the cable to balanced and they are my favorite cans in my collection.

Replace the plug first with the Furutech. If you still don't like it you can send it to recable and ask them to use the same Furutech so you will not pay twice for a plug. I did that with a pair of Vampire Wire Cryotreated XLR connectors.

I already answered your PM about this but I'll put it here as well.

The D7000/D5000 stock cable is fantastic. I have heard my D5000 in comparison to an APS V3 recabled one, both using J$ pads side by side, and could tell little to no difference between the two. The APS V3 was slightly more detailed, with barely noticeably tighter bass, but certainly not a change worth anywhere near $280, which made me decide to not have mine recabled. This was on a high end system, on my system I can pretty much guarantee I wouldn't have even heard a difference.

If you were using D2000s I think it'd probably be a different story, but on D5000/D7000s I wouldn't bother, their cable compares very well to aftermarket cables. If anything just reterminate with a Neutrik/Furutech jack, but TBH the stock plug is pretty high quality as well, it just feels a little flimsy in your hand. Even if you were using the D5000 with the adaptor I wouldn't bother reterminating as the adaptor isn't changing SQ at all.
