Dekoni Audio has upgraded to a higher-fidelity measurement rig as of late 2018. We want the curious to get an objective idea of how our pads sound even if they can't demo them in person, and are currently in process of re-doing and expanding our list of measurements to help provide that service.

We start with comfort, using our soft, high density, slow rebound memory foam for an extra plush experience that conforms to the shape of your face (and accommodates glasses stems). Like all our earpads, they are offered in a wide range of fabric options, including premium Sheepskin, Fenestrated Sheepskin, Elite Velour, and our Hybrid pads. We also ensured the pads mount just as securely as the stock pads. Finally, we shaped and measured the pads to tune the sound and share a preview of how they sound compared to stock pads.

Of course, the ear is the final judge, and remember everyone's ear is shaped different, and this can make a substantial difference in how we perceive sound... so respect your neighbor's experiences! Because of that, our current policy is to use uncompensated graphs (except for cancelling out the effect of our microphone dummy head), so keep in mind that these graphs are mainly for contrasting against the stock pad sound, everyone is generally more sensitive to the midrange tones where vocals are than any other (they "feel" louder), and finally tonal characteristics tend to "grow" on us as we listen more and get used to them.

Indeed, there are some pads that are on the generic side. However, it would be great to see more detailed measurements for specific models - like the HD800, HD600, TH-X00, LCD series, and Focal.

So let me get this straight - you're complaining that Dekoni now has access to the rig behind the most comprehensive set of measurements readily available?

Should they invest in a top dollar measurement rig, post favourable measurements for sponsors' products that look different than all other measurements online, and simply brag about how expensive the rig was whenever the measurements are questioned?

well, I sent an email to dekoni asking for advise about what difference their elite pad models make on an audeze lcd mx4, and all I got an answer from them, is yes they fit as an answer, as if I do not know that they fit, my question was bout how they affect the sound and not about fit

my interest was in the elite hybird model, but since i got a lame answer I will not go for it, and better to stay stock

when someone will think bout messing around their pads with expensive headphones like audeze lcd mx4 or 4z they better have an answer ready for such question

Dekoni Audio is pleased to announce a new round of measurements and some new pads.

We polled the community, and after careful analysis of the votes we realized we had to make our first measurements with the new rig on a pair of headphones every true audiophile will have lying around (or at least KG Jag)

For those curious for the whole suite of measurements click here: Hello Kitty FULL TEST. As you can see, this is a fairly v-shaped headphone, or more accurately a cat ear shaped frequency response after a few alley battles. There is a fairly strong 20 dB dip in the upper midrange between 2 kHz and 7 kHz, roll off in the extended ranges of treble and bass, and overall this is a dark kitty. It does a fair job of keeping cat-cries from leaking out of the ear cups, which is good because the headphone is pretty noisy (THD, Total Harmonic Distortion). The 30 hz square wave response looks more like an EKG heart rate rather than a fun box to play in (loose bass, early roll-off), and the 300 hz square wave doesn’t fare much better, indicating that these kitties lack in treble speed and agree with the frequency response chart that the transitions are uneven as they dart up and down the scales.


Compare that to the HD 700, wearing our newly-available Dekoni Elite Ear Pads!

Aaaaaah, this is more like it. The HD 700 is quite an upgrade from the Hello Kitty headphones, but despite it's devoted fan base most people agree that the frequency response is a bit uneven. We spent quite a bit of time in the prototyping process with these, tweaking the sound and improving the durability of the mounting plastic until we were satisfied to put our name on them. As you can see with the overlay above, the Dekoni Elite Velour earpads are the most similar to the stock earpads, but all of the Dekoni pads offer a smoother transition between bass and midrange, less of a scoop to the midrange, and overall a more cohesive, warmer sound. The HD 700 can wear Elite Velour, Sheepskin, Fenestrated Sheepskin, and a Hybrid of all three pad types with soft Velour making contact with your face, Fenestrated Sheepskin on the inner lining, and solid Sheepskin on the outer lining to provide a seal.

Thanks for your long term patience... we originally performed a fast 50 point graph, but we thought it would be more beneficial to redo it with a 500 point graph (and really careful seating on our microphone dummy!). We’re also training another of our employees to make the graphs, so when Tal is away we can still get these done. Doing more today, in fact, for some new upcoming models!

The graph plots are aligned at 50 hz, uncompensated.
