Probably this is common knowledge, but I've discovered a way of eliminating the hum through my various headphones that comes from my vintage Sherwood receiver.
The hum was independent of volume control. So it dawned on me to try to put my EarBuddy attenuator between the phones and the receiver, and bingo, it worked perfectly. The attenuator is 15db.
My Sennheiser 650's had a particularly loud hum through the Sherwood, making listening to that combination unbearable. It was quite a loud hum. But with the attenuator in place the hum became practically inaudible, probably reduced by 99%. Problem totally solved!
