Hey people :)

I am looking for an inexpensive player that doesn't totally suck.

All of my music is FLAC but it's easy enough to transcode to AAC or Vorbis files with Foobar.

I went into BestBuy and all they had was a Sandisk Clip Jam, Clip Sport Go and a couple cool looking Sony Walkmans. I almost bought a Sony NW-E394 which was on sale for $94 CAD but i thought i would wait and do a bit of looking around. I wont lie i kinda want the Sony based on nostalgia.. I always had a cassette and then CD Walkman growing up, hehe.

Is the NW-E394 (or NW-E395) any good for the price? I don't see much else in the range.. other than 100 million Chinese devices. I don't mind being limited to 8/16GB if im not using FLAC.

Not sure what headphones i will be using as i need to buy some also lol.. Thinking about trying the Takstar Pro82s.

Any recommendations greatly appreciated!

Cheers. :p

Hey, a fellow British Columbian! If you already have an SDXC card, you can get a FiiO M3K from London Drugs for $99.99 and be set. It sounds good for the price, plays Hi-Res files, and has a long battery life. Plus, London Drugs has a two week return policy, so, if you live near one, you can easily take it back if you don't like it.

I have a Sony MP3 Walkman from 7 or 8 years ago. I love it but it won't play FLAC or other Hi-Res audio files, and when comparing lossy files between it and the FiiO, the FiiO sounds better. The Walkman has a radio tuner, though, so that's nice. Also, the Walkman requires Sony's proprietary cable, while the FiiO M3K simply uses micro USB.

Anyway, that's my two cents.

I can’t vouch for all the Chinese devices but a lot of really good stuff is coming from China.

Hey, cool! I just looked that one up and it looks great. That and a 128GB card (newegg) would be just a little more than the 16GB sony.

The Fiio X1II looks great for a little bit more too.

Thanks.

Any idea which? There are so many. hehe :D

5S sounds better than 7/8/9 IMHO. Sound quality got downgraded each time Apple upgraded their product lines under Cook's leadership for the cause of cost saving...no matter iPhone or Mac...now they even drop the headphone jacks...how stupid it is. Miss the Jobs days.
