Ive heard of these guys for a couple of years now (mainly in the context of being a weak Meshuggah rip-off); finally got around to getting their latest album.
I have to say that this is the first thoroughly impressive death/tech/experimental/prog-metal album I have heard in quite some time.
Yes, there is a noticeable Meshuggah influence here; you get the wicked off-timed guitars accompanied by frenetic, poly rhythmic style drumming. However, theres some very creative guitar work here, and less predictable/cyborg like drumming (ala Haake). Layer this with keyboards, some fantastic atmospheric effects and a vocalist who can effectively transition from some brutally high-pitched shrieking to a softer more melodic style of singing, and you have an intriguing formula.
The overall sound is hard to explain due to the constant shifts in melody and structure but this is what makes the band so interesting. Somehow, they manage to create some solid, catchy melodies throughout.
"Old Days Born Anew" would be a good starting point.
Recommended for fans of Meshuggah, DEP, Ion Dissonance, etc.
