I just picked up a set of Nakamichi SP-7 headphones. However, they are really smokey. Is there any sucessful to "de-smoke" a set of headphones? These are really bad...

Also, where can I get new pads that will work with these? Nak no longer makes them, but I understand that someone else does that will work...

Do you mean that they smell like smoke? If you do, then spray small amounts of air freshener about 10 inches or so above the cans. It will create a nicer smell without being overpowering. If that doesn't work, or you don't want to do that, just let it sit out on your desk, table, whatever. It just takes time.

Wipe them down with white vinegar first (undiluted) and see if that helps to neutralize the odor. If the smell still persists get a large baggy (2 gal. size) put the headphones in the baggy along with a small open container of white vinegar (undiluted) and seal it up let them sit like that for 1 - 2 days. Repeat this process if necessary. This should go a long way towards neutralizing the smell if not eliminating it entirely. . . . . You may also need to wash the pads separately, or replace them.

I have done this myself with great results, at first when you take the phones out of the bag they will smell like vinegar instead of stale smoke, but the vinegar smell will go away in short order.

Yes, they have a VERY strong cigarette smoke smell...even from several feet away....

I've got a Zontec PA600 professional ozone generator which will remove smoke and other odors from rooms, cars, etc.

Maybe I should go into the headphone deodorizing business...
