I am building a DC transformer for my Grado amp. I want to make sure I meet all AC and DC current requirements; does anyone know what the max. transient current is?

Also, does anyone have any suggestions with respect to the components? I'm planning on using the standard AC transformer + diode + cap.

You can underpower but you can never use too much current.
Check the spec sheet for the opamp used and go from there
A good power supply might be +/- 15 volts @ 500 ma per polarity.
That would be enough headroom for any opamp I know of
