Absolutely love the look of this amp and tubes in general. Just wondering if these will drive W5000 as well as the HA5000 or better?

Anyone had any experience with this amp and the W5000?

I don't think anyone on these forums has a 337, although there's been a bit of speculation about it.

If it was going to be a stock amp with no mods, I'd prefer something else for the W5000.

The W5000 has a kinda weird balance in the bass, and it can't really afford the rolloff imposed by the low value DC blocking caps on the output, IMO. It's also much more sensitive to any noise or hum from NOS tubes when tuberolling; things that were barely audible on some tubes with the K501 were clear as day with the W5000. Bypass caps on the cathode resistors (for hum) and some added output impedance (for noise) pretty much clear that up. This is the drawback to the W5000's insanely clear and revealing nature, it will find even the tiniest amount of noise anywhere in your system. This is what people mean when they say you build your system around the W5000, and not the other way around.

People do extreme things to their systems to make them black. Maybe one sees having to configure their W5000 with a HA5000 as a drawback but if you do your system is black. Note, I am not sure about the reference for this number but AT states the HA5000 as having a 117 dB noise level. Now that is really black if it is that high.

Is that also a trait of the AD2000's?

And... did you add the bypass caps and added impedence to your DarkVoice FM?

And... regarding your mods to the DarkVoice... did they quiet the DarkVoice enough that it has a "blackground" with the W5000's, or is the stock amp that quiet?

I have no idea.

The noise I got was mostly from some of my replacement tubes. Yes, the mods did quiet it enough to give a "blackground" with the W5000, thats why I still have both.
