At $14 and for a double CD it's definitely worth it.

Doom metal fans:

There's a new Dot(.) LP on Blind Date Records out of Germany. Limited to 500 copies on vinyl. AFAIK no American stores stock it yet, but I hope Aquarius will soon.

The only Dot(.) I've heard before is a 10" on some Finnish label, but they are pretty ass-kickin'. Think similar to Electric Wizard, i.e. Black Sabbath but a thousand times heavier. I hope this LP is good, too. (Oh yeah, they're Japanese!)

The songs at the end of CD 2 show a noticeable transition to different style music which made official appearance on "Discouraged Ones" album.......closer to what Anathema was doing during that time also with clean vocals. Still great collection of EPs from golden era with improved remastered sound.

Not sure why they used a couple tracks from December Souls & Brave Murder Day, perhaps just to fill out CD with more time. I think their newest album "viva emptiness" is best they have done since BMD although in different music style.

BTW, that "top 50 list" list is dangerous to your wallet......had to buy almost all those new since they are hard to find used.

I guess they were filling it out. The only other option would be to have 3 discs and include the two other EPs-'Tear Gas' 2001 (#1.Teargas #2.Sulfur #3.March 4) & 'Tonight's Music' 2001 (#1.Tonight's music #2.Help me disappear #3.O how I enjoy the light). But 3 disc releases may be tough to talk the label into doing.

The 1st 'Jhva Elohim Meth... The Revival' is the one I never see and only one I don't have.

Well, not knowing your tastes that well, I have a hard time making an unqualified recommendation, but some that have hit home with me are:

Naglfar

perhaps:

Opeth -- not so much thrashy fast, but lots of nice changes, and certainly fast enough
Ephel Duath -- even more diverse (and pleasing) than Opeth

I'll have to go back and read your other posts in these threads and see if I can recommend anything more specifically. Definitely at least try to hear some of the above.

Opeth started me on this path Feb/2003 when I took a chance on 'Blackwater Park' which was an absolute revelation and I immediately ordered the other 6 releases (that was a fun listening time!).

I will. Actually I've been going back over the posts and lists of DA, KR..., scottder, nacher, etc to cross reference for what's next (although each of them have distinct tastes). In the mean time, I was planning to pick fruit from the top of DA's tree and had 'Dusk & Her Embrace' on deck...I'll add Naglfar as well.

ET : I'll second for CoF - Dusk and Her Embrace. It's a definite classic and a must get. Hard to believe how far that album was ahead of it's time at 1996. It also was the first dark metal album (with Sentenced - Down) that I heard, and fell in love immediately. I'm still a big fan of Sentenced as well, and Down & Frozen are definite 10/10 albums for me.

Some other bands I would suggest you take a look at are :

Shape of Despair (Very, very depressing and sad funeral doom metal)
Tenhi (Dark and melancholic neofolk/classical. A very talented band with a strong fanbase)
Swallow the Sun (Mix of Opeth and horror movie soundtracks, hehe)
Arcturus (The master of weird progressive dark metal)

If you can get your hands on it, try getting the Japanese Version of Dusk since it has three extra tracks : 'Hell Awaits', ' Camilla's Masque' and 'Nocturnal Supremacy '96'.

That's the version I have.

Thanks-that is a good suggestion. But I searched and OUCH $40USD/$57CDN. Amazon.ca's Dusk It's a bit too much for me.

I'm not sure if i've mentioned them before, but i'd like to give virgin black a bit of a plug. Awesome doom metal, can't think of anything to compare them to really, but i like em a lot. http://listen.to/virginblack plenty of samples on their site to try out. I'm actually pretty surprised at how strong doom metal is in australia, quite a few well known bands.

I've listened to it but not as much as WW & BTV due to the personal enjoyment factor. World of Glass sounds like it comes from a different band altogether. (when a key member leaves I guess it is a different band). I find it less complex, less dense, less sophisticated. But I am fond of track #7-'Hatred Grows'. Sometimes simple is good to

. Beautiful opening, great simple beat/rhythm and a really good chorus. I've amused myself by playing that track for different people with different taste and watching them involutarily start tapping their foot!

BTW I think Beyond the Veil's 'Angina' is just absolutely perfect and I listen to it daily.

There is one more step to the complete TRISTANIA collection, there is a CD that collects two EPS together "Midwintertears/Angina" for 7 tracks total, so really a MCD. At least three of those are non album tracks so needless to say another essential purchase.
