Dark or Light preference?

neither... neutral is preferred.

**edit**
I can't vote since IMHO either signature will sound bad... if extreme enough.

I like Guiness, make mine DARK. Seriously, what are you really asking?

From what I gather dark means the headphones lean more toward the bass end of what you hear and Light (or I should have said Bright) leans more toward higher freq.

Do I understand this correctly?

Bright suggests sybbilance to me, which is nasty, but dark could suggest heavy and lacking in response. In essence, it would depend entirely on the music I was listening to, and so I would prefer an "adapts to situations rather nicely" button.

That said, guinness all the way if there are only 2 options.

for the most part...yeah sounds right to me

But brightness refers to the "energy" of the higher frequencies as well...

Thanks for clarification. The original Dark vs. Light is NOT commonly used comparison--I was thinking more like full blown warmer sounding Senn HD650 vs. lighter travelling phones like Audio Technica EM7 clip ons.

It can be interpreted many ways, but what you just described may be also considered as "Recessed vs. Fully-extended" or "Thick-sounding vs. Thin-sounding" or "Bass heavy vs. treble happy." Anyways, I voted for Dark since I like Senn.
