hey all,

i've been looking at portable players online for a while and i wanted to get some opinions. the basic requirements:

1) syncs well with windows media player and plays .wma files well
2) uses flash memory and must be fairly small and durable to work out at the gym and snowboard with
3) must have 16gb capacity or the potential for at least that much (i.e. 4- 8- 16gb expandable to 16 or more)
4) lastly, it must have decent audio circuitry, as i will be using this for everyday use as well.

for reference, i have been looking at the 16gb creative zen mosaic, as well as the 8gb sansa fuse

I know that this is a tall order, and it may not glean the desired results, but i wanted to ask the forum before i dropped a wad of cash on a dud.

Just got a Fuze 8 g + 16 and it does all of that plus plays flac files, but see if you can preview and do some a/b of the audio to be sure you like that sound.

well, i'm using wma lossless right now on my pc and it's kinda what i want to listen to on the player, so that rules out any ipods.

also looked at the zune and the sony walkman but the walkman didn't have the capacity i wanted.

the zune would be ok i guess but it's pretty expensive and i wasn't sure if you could sync it with windows media player or if you had to use their proprietary software... if anyone could enlighten me about this it'd be helpful, because i couldn't find it online anywhere...

as for sansa, the view has a screen that's too big, i'm afraid i'd fall on it and break it snowboarding. the fuze is just smaller so it'd be less of a risk, and from what i've seen from other ppl it's got better audio quality than the view anyways.

i'd like to hear from someone that uses any creative zen stuff. i'm really curious about the 16GB zen mosaic. it's fairly priced with the capacity i'm after but i don't know what the audio chip is like.

Zune doesn't work with WMP, at least not without a workaround.

As far as I know, only Microsoft and Toshiba make players that support WMA Lossless. I know Creative and Sandisk don't support it.

As far as I know, WMP can sync with any UMS/MTP devices (Zune excluded without workaround as described). I think WMP uses an XML file, so even if the device is simply a flash drive, it can still sync with it.
