I have a Zune and a Clip +, and I feel that they are a little underpowered when it comes to supplying some of my higher impedance cans with energy. Most noticeable is the lack of bass, even in some of my more bass heavy phones.

Rather than buy a new headphone, I would rather buy a new DAP (if one such exists) that can drive all of my existing cans, which I enjoy from my PCs sound card.

How does the J3 fare? Sony X, Hippo Gumstick, etc.

I also know that the S:Flo2 is capable, but can I get one before september?

Why not just get an amp?

Your best bet in a reasonable price range is the up-coming Hifiman HM-602 which will retail around $300-400 and have expandable memory.

Sflo is great, I think they have the inventory issue sorted out.  Haven't seen any complaints for awhile now.  If you are that worried do EMS shipping.  1 week.  Plus you always have the option to run the LO in future.  Just be sure you aren't the type that needs a UI that can read your mind for you.

602 looks interesting, want more info.

Used my S9 to drive some 600 ohm Beyerdynamic phones at CanJam... they weren't loud, but I could get a normal listening volume out of them.
