Hello all, I'm looking to buy a new pair of cans strictly for home use, they will be mainly used for dance/trance so I'll be looking at alot of highs and basically an energetic pair of cans with fairly decent bass. I've been searching around this website and some reviews and these are the three cans I've found to be worth the listen.

I'm mainly listening through my computer but I may occasionally listen to them in bed with my iAudio M3 or Stereo. I also plan to do a bit of gaming though music and sound aren't a real factor when I'm focusing on the game. I used to have a pair of Sennheiser HD25-1 which I thought sounded great but I traded them for a pair of Shure E3c which are currently - accompanied with my m3 - my portable solution.

Anyway, I'd like to know which out of these 3 cans would be best for me, judging by your experiences.
- Beyerdynamic DT440
- Beyerdynamic DT770
- Sony MDR-CD3000

Thanks!

Just a few months ago, I would of recommended the DT770, but why aren't you considering the Sony SA5000?

Quite simply, it is the best electronica can I have every heard and should be great for Trance.

The DT770 is warm with uber bass, uber treble. Althouhg sound is a bit congested in the midrange and grainy throughout the highs.

The SA5K bass is not as visceral as the DT770, but goes deeper and is much MUCH tighter. Recordings are well represented in the Sony's, and most Trance mix's I have heard are tweaked for bass. Overall the sound is super detailed and clean. Space surrounds every note in an effortless fast presentation. Plus, the massive soundstage embraces channel hopping effects with aplomb.

I own the DT770, SA5K, and have owned the CD3k for what it is worth.

just like I am, I think their $400 + price tag might scare him away

what amp would you be using? the CD3k's, despite their 32ohm impedance, are very difficult cans to drive properly. the DT770's, while not super hard to drive, are also going to want a decent amplifier for good bass response.

try out DT440s with a Pimeta w AD8610/20s to compensate for the dark sound.

No amp, though I could probably shell out $150 tops for an amp. Ofcourse, would prefer not to though.

Possibly look at the HD590, too. Apparently works better with an amp but doesn't really need a beefy one (it's a 4556 running off +/- 12 V with 10µ caps and 3x 47 ohm in series at the output here), and the sound signature is quite well suited for trance. Very comfy, too. Circumaural, open.
