Damn, my HD580s are bright.

Well, when I sent them back to Sennheiser to replace the headband, I told them to check the drivers to see if they're performing to spec.

That's funny. I listen to px100 and love how laid-back they are. They are definitely far from neutral or balanced. The hd580's on the other hand are transparent and neutral - accurate presentation of the music. Maybe, you've gotten too used to the veiled quality of px100's?

That's probably the truth. Now, if I could only find a phone that gave me a tad more accuracy and detail without losing that laid back quality...

Sorry, but when I first read the thread title this is what popped into my head:

Dude, The HD 580's are not a bright set of cans. I do have a set of PX100's. They a different from what you are familiar with but they are better if you know what to do with them. Dude, all the cables that are available and all the mods? If you have any concerns what to do with them I will be more than happy to point you in the right direction.

What mods do you suggest?

HD580 are indeed bright compared to uberveiled HD595 or slow and muddy PX100, but searingly bright? Hell no! They should still be rather laidback, just little clinical on treble but not piercing. Unless your pair is defective, (or you are just oversensitive to high frequencies) do not venture to headphones like DT880...

Oh, how true this sounds. Heheheheh....

UPDATE: Sennheiser send back my headphones today. Only one week turnaround. Brand new headband and full diagnostic run. I asked them to check out the drivers to make sure they were up to spec. I don't know if they replaced the drivers (I don't think so, no indication on the invoice) but I'm quite liking them now!
