Damn. I think the heat might have broken my Keces DA-152! (update: great customer service!)

Well, I haven't been listening to music for a few days, mostly because it's been too hot and muggy in my room to be able to comfortably sit in my chair and relax. However, tonight was "cool" enough that I thought I might give it a try... only to find out that something's not right with my Keces!!

It powers up fine, and when I turn the knob all the way up I can hear a small bit of noise (amp section seemingly works). The computer can recognize the Keces and play music, but the little green light inside the unit which goes on when a signal is being decoded won't come on, and there's no sound!

Since I leave the Keces amp/DAC combo on 24/7, could the room temperature have caused something to break, even when it wasn't playing?! It's off right now, and I'll give it a try again tomorrow, but this is a major bummer right now.

P.S. I tried it on both my dedicated music PC and my laptop, and neither worked.
P.P.S. I also tried turning the unit off and on, unplugging/replugging the USB cable, and restarting the computer. Nothing.

Dang it....my bad luck must've rubbed off on you. My amp recently died too!

Definitely email Keces, go to ebay and look ask the seller and I'm pretty sure he'll replace it for you considering that your unit is less than a year old.

Bummer!

I was just up in Joliet myself this week and I mean to tell you, it was HOT! It was even hotter than where I live in Florida! Very surreal. Especially for this early in the year.

It was also VERY humid (at least for IL). You might consider letting it stabilize for a few days. Where you running AC prior? Any possibility of condensation building up inside the box due to temperature differential?

Just a thought....

Haha that's what all my friends back home (north Illinois) are saying. I'm currently in Florida until next week. They say we got it backwards. I feel bad for my dog though. He's probably suffering from the heat.

Anyways, back on topic. My condolences. I hope you get a new one!
The only thing I suspect is overheating, but that's pretty doubtful considering it sort of works...

Well, I'm out of ideas here. Even in the cooler weather, it still doesn't work. I've tried the DAC on two different computers, and I've used two different USB cables. Nada.

I sent an email to David earlier today. Hopefully he can help!

P.S. I'm sooooo glad that I picked up a 3Move a couple of months ago, or I would be seriously hurting for tunes right now!

I don't think that you have had it long enough for this to happen, but if you leave it on 24/7, it is possible that a part got fried, in the DAC or otherwise. Heat is an enemy of all electronics, and it is possible that the heat pushed it over the edge. It is unlikely, however.

It sounds like something went pfffft. It happens ....and it's a bummer each and every time it happens. In order to properly diagnose the fault it'll have to be put on a test bench with the proper tools to troubleshoot it.

Get a hold of Keces and see what they can arrange for you (if it's under warranty or not).

Good luck !

Peete.
