Hi all,

Thinking about upgrading my desktop audio components here as I'm currently using an Emagic EMI 2|6 audio interface and Bose companion 2 speakers.

I'm tight on space here so there's a premium on size.

Looks like the DacMagic 100 + Swan M200MkIII would run about $825ish all together.

Wondering if anyone would recommend an alternative setup?

Thanks,

Andrew

An inexpensive 24-bit, asynchronous DAC like the HRT Streamer II for no more than $150, running to a pair of active Yamaha MSP5 Studio.  This will cost you about $700.

Your philosophy should be:  Get as little DAC as you can get away with.  Get as much speaker as you can.

Can't say anything about the DAC Magic but I've been using the Swans for 9 months and find to them to be great desktop speakers for a small room.  You won't be disappointed.  Excellent transparency and imaging.  My DAC does have a pre-amp so that may help with some of the dynamics and loudness.  I can push them pretty loud with no distortion of edginess.  Of course your experience will vary with your own DAC.  I found the bass quality and quantity to get better with Sanus speaker stands vs sitting on top of a bookcase or desk.
