It might help to list a budget?
I would suggest checking out the FiiO K3 and Schiit Fulla 2.

Hi @inter2010,

I suggest depending on your source, a good choice within your budget would be either Lexicon Alpha or Focusrite Scarlett Series.

Hope you have a great day !

wow !!! just 5 stars reviews !!!

do you think it's a good combination?

a guy suggested me the teac ud503 but damn 1k euro.....
I ordered the XD-05 as I want to try it, but assumed it would make a nice combo with the SRH1540.

more than this Focusrite Scarlett Series ??
The XD-05 would have a better DAC function and better headphone amplifier, then an Audio Interface (Focusrite).
Audio Interface is more about having features for audio recording or creation or mixing.

The Shure SRH 1540 was my first nice headphone. The first amp/dac I tried was the DragonFly Red. As is typical with this hobby I convinced myself pretty quickly that I wanted to try something else. I next bought a Schiit Modi Multibit and Magni 3. Was it better you ask? I don't know, but now I had the possibility 2 set ups. I used that as an excuse to buy another set of headphones so that I could use one set up at work and another at home. I decided to try an open pair of headphones and jumped on the Senn 6XX from Massdrop. After a short while I wanted to try planar headphones so I purchased a set of Oppo PM 3's. Soon this left me wondering what all of these headphones would sound like with a tube amp... enter the Schiit Lyr 3. I don't really listen to the the Shure's with the Lyr 3 as that is my home amp now and I prefer the closed headphones for work.

Current work set up. Spotify (320Kbps) > DragonFly Red > Loki > Magni 3 > Shure SRH 1540 / Oppo PM 3

Current home set up. Spotify (320Kbps) > Modi Multibit > Lyr 3 > Senn HD 6XX

I am perfectly happy with both. Well, as perfectly happy as any of us here are until we have some discretionary income.

TLDR - You can get really great sounding results with your budget of $200 - 400. Personally I would head more towards the $400 and then listen to it a lot before buying anything else.

I understand your point of view
there is nothing better than your ear and your experience.....but I need a starting point and that's why I need the opinions of someone who has more experience than me...

Hi @inter2010,

I would still suggest, don't forgo looking at the Lexicon Alpha or Focusrite Scarlett series even if you chose the XD, you can always expand out with a good interface, something like the XD does make it tricky but not impossible to expand if & when you decide to get more gear.

Hope you have a great day !
