True, they probably add more damping to the inner cups to change the sound signature abit.

Both the plastic and wood D2000 and D5000 cups, respectively, come with no damping, whatsoever. It is a good idea to 'dampen' them, a la the markl modification using Dynamat (or some comparable substance), though. This has a positive effect with both types of cup enclosures, and their associated driver housings and tightens up that 'over-active' bass, a bit.

Well I guess sinner6 has settled it.

Not settled yet. Sinner6 needs to take one for the team and cut both cables open so we can see what's inside each cable.

A question for sinner6, are both cables equally flexible?

Not as good of a pic as sinner6 but it's something.

The D2000's cable seems heavier and less flexible.

Hi guys,
Here are some pics of the D2000 cable and the D7000 cable to compare. D2000 on the left and D7000 on the right.

First one shows the different copper. The pic doesn't cature it that well, but the D7000 wire is softer, more flexible and is more orange/pink than the D2000 wire due to its increased purity.

Other pic shows the differences between D2000 and D7000 sheaths.

We don't deal as much in D5000s or replace as many of these cables these days (we use the D2000 and D7000 primarily), but still have not seen D2000 cable on D5000 so far. We have no special insight whatsoever into Denon/Fostex's manufacturing process, other than the units we handle.

I think that settles it. Same wire as before, just different sheathing/shielding/etc.

movi, correct, D2000 and D7000 have different wire inside; they also have different sheaths.

Nice, thanks markl! makes me feel better about spending $500 extra for the D7000 haha.
