The q-JAYS sound tempting to wait for, but simply from a pricepoint, I think i will run with the d-JAYS for now...then, when I finish studying and start working etc, I can go straight to something like SE530. I have no doubts about the durability or comfort of the d-JAYS, but about their sound:

Some people are saying that they lack bass - I'm not really a basshead or anything, but upgrading from iBuds I can at least expect better basss than those right? (I'm using the HD555 at home, so thats the level of bass I'm used to).

Second thing is sensitivity, hiss and amplification. I would use these staright from the headphone out of my iPod nano 1st gen (no external amp). Would there be any hiss with the d-JAYS? Would the d-JAYS still sound good without an amp?

Thirdly, I've read in some places that it is not recommended to use IEM's for exercising. I'm not too concerned about microphonics (anyway they're not too bad on the d-JAYS right?) but some say that sweat can get in the drivers and screw them up. Is this true? Would the d-JAYS be alright to use while exercising? I don't really sweat bucketloads (or at least i don't think so...)

Hi!

First:
We will in June release d-JAYS in "iPod colours" mainly for the Shuffle but the Nano has the same colours except for the orange. They will come in pink, blue, green and orange

Second:
If you go from the original iPod ibuds you will definitive make a huge step forward from the bass to the highs.

Third:
No problems with sweat destroing them. I have trained a lot with mine without any problems. Haven't heard about this problem at all really

Hey thanks for the reply. I'd heard some time back that the d-JAYS were going to get more colours. What date in May exactly are you planning to release? (May has started already) Also, could you please post or link to some pictures of the d-JAYS in new colours?

I originally liked the white with the green logo but then decided on black becasue I think I'd get that cheap iBud feeling with any white earphones I use. Depending on what the new colours look like, I may go for something more adventurous even though my iPod is white.

...Also, what about hiss? Will I get hiss when I plug them straight into my 1st gen nano?

Sorry, mixed up with q-JAYS. Coloured d-JAYS is planned to be out in June. Pictures.. I have to check that first. If allowed I'll post them here later on.
The white ones look really nice. Not cheap at all if you ask me

. They match my MacBook really nice.

There is always a hiss with all equipment. How sensitive you are to that is hard for me to tell. It is depending on the source S/N ratio and I don't have a first gen Nano so I can't tell you really. My guess is that you will never think about it. If it's there it's very very low

d-Jays might lack bass quantity, but quality is a huge step-up from ibuds. You cant even compare, really.

The d-JAYS are not bass shy, and are very detailed. The midrange is very prominent.

X 2

The hiss is not prominent, it is hearable when the music is of but only when your are listening at a volumen that will damage your hearing when the music returns...
The e500 has more hiss...

that is from my ipod 5,5 g

with an amp (x1 is the only portable one I have got) there is no hiss with either..

They are head-shoulders better than ipod stock buds. I spent some time (way to much time really) demoing stock ipod buds at headfest.... No contest, any of the popular IEMs above $20 blows the ipod buds out of the water.

Compared to the HD555 however.. that I am not sure. I've never heard the HD555. Its probably safe to say the d-jays are more snappy, quick and better at revealing musical details. At least, thats how they compare to my HD580.

Bass = plenty of impact and warmth IMHO. The deep bass extension is less than my Grados (for example), but its not very noticeable unless you're listening to pipe organ, synth tones or orchestral recordings that extend that low. Most acoustic instrumentation (rock, pop, vocals...etc...) recordings just dont have much resonance below ~35-40 Hz anyways.

Mids are the d-jays sweet-spot. Forward, detailed, very snappy sounding and quick. I still think they are the closest thing to Grado-mids in an IEM.

Not sure about sweat. I use my cheaper phones for working out.
