I feel the new flavor of the month in vintage PCDP's is soon becoming the D-321. How many of us are there that own this nice player?

i own one, but it's been broken for a few years now, so i don't want to make a sonic judgement right now. if it is perhaps becoming flavour of the month, maybe i should get it repaired!

there's something wrong with the motor or the laser pickup, it would make clicking noises when i try to play a disc, and it would not pick up the first track until i give it a hearty strong whack. i tried to play with it the other day and this method isn't working anymore.

anyway... as far as i remember, it was a really good player. if compared to the redbook vintage PCDPs though (D-777, D-E905, D-555, D-515, etc) i dunno how it compares.

hey pappucho, i see you have the aiwa HP-J7! i used to have two pairs, but sadly they've been gone for a long time. as i remember, they used to amaze me with the sound quality coming out of these earbuds. i used to use them with my D-321 actually, and i remember amazing detail, and gobs of bass extension without sounding bloated. can you comment on the J7's as i haven't heard them in many years.

if you're thinking of selling them, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PM ME!

Hello Bong, I read your several scattered posts about the HP-J7 and agree with your opinion of this great little earbud. I actually got mine from the person who sold me the Kenwood 721. I hadn't given the earbud much attention because the build quality isn't near the quality of the HP-D8. Also, there is a foam lining inside the case that had eroded and left a black residue on the backs of the earbuds. After doing a search on head-fi out of curiiosity, I found your posts proclaiming it to be the best earbuds you've ever heard. So, after spending some time cleaning them for use I have since been using them for the majority of listening sessions. Compared to the D8, I would have to say the D8 probably has more detail, but to the point where the D8 can sound thin in comparison to the J7. The J7 has a better balance of detail with a good bottom end. Never sounding boomy like the Portapros tend to. There is also a very natural midrange which is much fuller than the D8. I would say I prefer listening to the J7 over the D8, although the D8 might be the winner in overall resolution, the J7 is much more natural and complete.
