While browsing in a local pawn shop today I saw this dusty black pcdp under a pile of cameras. It was a Sony D-303 made in japan in 3/91 ser#50474. After auditioning it with my Koss 35 I was really impressed and bought it for $25.00 without manual or ac adapter. I cleaned it up and it doesn't have a scratch on it-pristine.
Please tell me that I got a good deal . At home with the ER 4P it sounds louder and cleaner than my Sony D-T401 which has 16mw.per ch. into 16 ohms.
Now for the questions
1. What is the power output per ch?
2. What goes into the square receptacle next to the AA batt. compartment?
3. Can it be powered by the 4.5 volt adapter that came with the other Sony although the back says 9 volt?
4. Occasionally it will stop or falter in the 1st. track of some cd's but not on latter tracks. I suspect the worm gear or slider needs lube. Has anyone done this kind of maintenance on this unit?

Hi, it's a great deal! I love my D-303, very good sound.

1. It is rated at 2x 5mW at 16ohms, but seems much more-higher gain.
2. Sony use to have the BP-2EX for their old discmans. The D-303 is one of the last to use that square battery, but it also has the AA adapter. You can find discussion about that old battery in the D-25 threads.
3. Sorry, onllly 9V of 600+mah will do.
4. I heard 1 or two other cases of that. I think meithkiller has one that has trouble with the first tracks, but mine works fine, so can't help you there.

Hi,
For 25 dollars....that can't be beat!!! Great deal....maybe the best deal in fact! Welcome to the club. Now you have to try its line out. D-303 has one of the best line out of any pcdp in the market. Very clean, powerful, and great soundstage. Impressive player.
