Interesting review. Some of the reviewer's statements come off as a bit contradictory to me though, especially in his section about the treble. It's almost like he's straddling the fence between making bold statements and safe statements.

His first sentence on the treble is, "The highs frequencies have a very strong lift from lower treble to the upper regions." Later he mentions a "slight dip in the lower treble part (just in comparison to the more treble happy tuned sets)." He says the treble has a "bright tilt" that "for some can be too much", but he also describes it as "more leveled and smoother" compared to other IEMs, and "effortless".

Still better than anything I could write, though!

Question for you Deezel if I may. Does it make sense to own both the fibae 2 and the mass drop edition fibae, or are they more alike than unalike if that makes sense?

Thanks

I'm interested to hear what he has to say on that as well. I suspect the ME has A LOT more bass. It's one of the bassiest IEMs I've heard.

Based on my experience with the ME - and this will sound quite strange - the two overlap quite a bit because they have similarly warm, lush and darker signatures, but how they present dynamics will inevitably decide which genres and listening scenarios each of them sound best on. The FIBAE 2 relies on contrast between its mid-bass and lower-treble to fuel its sense of rhythm, while its well-balanced midrange serves vocals exquisitely despite the neutral placement. On the other hand, despite the ME's rich, voluminous and physical low-end, it's less club-like and more mellow, sweet and inviting. It's not as energetic in terms of note articulation (i.e. the FIBAE 2 is relatively more aggressive in how it presents detail), but it emphasises spatial scale, vocal richness, instrumental solidity and bass power more than anything. So, despite the two having similar tonal qualities, where they differ most is in energy. If you don't mind having two IEMs of a similar tonal tint if it means having a specialist of sorts for different genres, then the ME is definitely worth having at its price. It's more visceral down low, more resolving in the midrange (though the FIBAE 2 has stronger articulation) and smoother - less-fatiguing - in the treble, resulting in discrepancies in space, energy and headroom that merit both in different ways.

I hope there's an answer for you somewhere within that long-winded post. :D

Thanks. Already got the fibae 2 (just awaiting an audiologist appointment for a re refit), and listen mainly to rock. Was just curious how they compared.

Well funny you ask that, because today I felt like listening to FIBAE2 for the first time in months after listening to MEs almost exclusively. There's huge difference in dynamics and overall FIBAE ME offers better resolution and better separation with overall more full sound despite having much more heavy bass response. To my ears FIABE2 are much more flat but they are also not as saturated meaning they sound more neutral compared to FIBAE ME. All in all the MEs are like a nice and balanced out dynamic driver, they are very easy to listen to and even though they have substantial low end they don't really overpower it - once you get used to it is simply hard to get back to more typical BA-like sound of bass.

Thanks Troy. There are many things I'd like to borrow from people, but with getting through my backlog of reviews, I just can't give them the time they deserve.

You know how that is.

So what you are saying is that ME has more punch and is more fun to listen to ?
