As long as the specs are comparable, they should be basically the same. The inside is nothing more than a big triac and a trigger circuit.

John, I discovered only a week or so ago that Jaycar in lane cove stocks ssr's!
I was pretty surprised~

Well that's a coincidence, that's just where I was looking. I picked one up today, I'm really happy with the quality they feel very robust.

cheaper alternatives are roll your own (not hard really) or really think about why you're using a SSR and realize that a standard relay will work 99% of the time, for projects around these parts.
