I sit in front of a 17" Dell CRT at work, and recently added a $7 desktop fan to keep me cool. It's sitting just to the right of the monitor, and the screen sort of pulsates and produces a wavy motion near the bottom righthand corner - closest to where the fan is placed when it's on. The further away I place the fan while it's on, the less pulsating/flickering I get. At about 2 feet away, the screen is perfectly fine again.

-It's not my eyes, I can tell you that.
-Fairly quiet desktop fan, with a fanblade about 8" in diameter. Runs off a wallsocket.

Can anyone solve this mystery for me? Thanks...

its the magnets in the fans motors playing havoc with the CRT - keep the two well apart or you'll end up with discoloration / image warping

Ok that makes so much sense that I can't believe it didn't cross my mind. Thanks Duncan! ~g

the same thing happened with my old TV and my crappy bookshelf aiwa speakers - they literally pulled the image towards them so the screen looked like a trapezoid. funky.
