It seems Moondrop isn't throwing away free sample units to the usual suspects so the lack of reviews isn't surprising.
yeah, they are soo good, Moondrop is coming with a new DLC 13.5mm driver earphone, it will be their new dynamic driver flagship

Well, I don't know about the kanas pro, but I'm hearing rumors that the moondrop a8 might be one of the best sub-$1000 performers. Apparently, it's so hard to make that they can produce only 3 units a day and that's why the estimated wait time for one is more than a month.

Really hard finding IEMs better value than the MDR7550, EX1000 and ER4SR. Andromeda comes into mind, but the fit was just really poor for me. ChiFi is just a roulette.

there's a sale for MDR7550 for SGD265 where i am, wondering if i should get that or FH5 instead, tried both and gotta admit FH5 for under SGD400 is quite the stunner..

Whatever you get, just note that 7550 has almost zero isolation. Do not get that for anything other than home use...

Fh5 isn't that special in my opinion/exp. The midrange felt way too forward and feel rather forced in coughing out details. Something like the earSonics es2 sounded a lot more mature, almost an anti thesis to it, and everything just "felt right" in the mix. You sound have plenty of choices, now or maybe even sooner.

i had said this on other thread, so forgive me if you already read this, but to me the MDR7550 and EX1000 strength is their large soundstage and airy open back-like feel, making them having weak isolation (the thing that i personally think the main strength of IEM form). with that characteristics, the earbuds form definitely bested them both with fuller sound, better staging, at a much cheaper price

Are the vocals that good on the 7550? I don't mind the "openness", how bad is the leakage?

compared to earbuds? no, not too special for me, and it's also a bit less forward in the soundstage, but the mids do sounds clear. as single dynamics go, my favorite is still the Moondrop Kanas

Sooner than now? Wouldn’t that mean in the past?

Btw, I got the sony xba-n3 yesterday and it''s actually quite good. I would have liked a bit tighter low end but this might be the iem with the least issues I've heard in the sub-$300 range. I got if for $220 in EU and it's totally worth it - one of the rare occasions you're not paying more for the brand as it hangs with the best of the similarly priced stuff from other brands

Planning for some extra written content next year, so drop some suggestions if y'all don't mind.

Original post here

I'm currently accepting nominations for:
ATAGOTI (According To A Guy On The Internet) 2018 Awards

The categories are as follows:
  • Best of the Best
  • Best Value
  • Most Interesting
  • Eyecandy Award
  • Trashcan Award (worst performance)
The selection process after nomination does not take into account vote popularity and will be completely up to my discretion.

The only two criteria for nomination is that the product has to be an IEM and released in the year 2018 for the 2018 awards. To participate, just state the category and the IEM to be nominated for said category. Repeat nominations (same IEM for different categories) are accepted.
