Which is the better amp for the £250 that i can get in the UK.

They will be powering the Sennheiser HD650 headphone (or another headphone, i just herd this was best ?)

The creek obh 21-se, or the musical fidelity X-CanV3.

I would get the x-can but am concerned that you cannot turn it off except at the powerpoint, so the tubes won't last more than a year or so.

Is it worth saving more and going for the current X-CanV8 ?

Basicly what headphone amp is best, if you have any thoughts or ideas please tell me - i need to be able to get the amp in the uk and it cost a maximum of £275, i listen to r&b, dance, industrial and all the way down to classical, acoustic jazz. A whole range of music. I like my bass taught, powerfull and deep, i dont like treble that is to bright and harsh (but still crisp), i like good soundstage aswell, and like my vocals powerfull but not to powerfull that it overwhelms the rest of the music.

Thanks.

I thought you could shut off the xcan 3?

I'd pick x-can v3.

For the tubes, you do 't have to worry. They last longer than you know.

If you consider their lives whether or not to leave the amp on all the time? You may find out later that you can listen to this amp with more hours (turn on/off when use) than leaving the amp on all the time til the tubes turn dead.

However, this amp (tubes or hybrid) needs warm-up time like 15 mins after turning on to make it sound right.

Okay thanks,

is the X-CanV8 much better than the V3 ?

Also what about the graham slee solo (latest version) is this any good ? i know its about £330 and over budget but if its a significant improvement over the ones mentioned i am happy to spend more.

My bad on the power switch thing. You could always unplug it when not using it. That is what I would do.

I have no experience with v8, so, honestly ...no idea.

With your types of music, I think Solo is better than x-can v3 in the sense of low key/note, impact, image/soundstage and details. Note: my reference cans are also HD650.

So have you personally herd the Graham Slee Solo (the one without the flashy PSU) ? and been able to compare it the the X-Can V3 ?

But if it does have better bass, impact (you mean bass impact ?) and more detail i would probably prefer. I also like it to sound powerfull and big with good vocal projection - as previously mentioned, how well does it fare with this ?

If you could link me to some reviews of it that would be great as i cant find any at the moment for some reason

edit: looking at a picture i just noted it said 'DC 24V'... does this mean i can't just plug it into a wall socket AC supply ?

For that kind of money I would recommend that you email Mike aka Pinkie over at rockgrotto and buy one of his tweeked amps which are in effect completely rebuilt and are absolutely the dog's bollocks.

If funds allow then buy the little pinkie but you will get more improvements from the rebuild.

I have a completely Pinkied i.e. rebuilt V1 and it is stunning.
