SO what's the verdict on this amp for cans like Grado's, Senn HD580's, etc.? I am looking for a first realyl good amp and can get this one for about $100.

But for the same price I can get a Headsave Transit (META42)... would the Transit be a significant improvement in sound?

thanks!

The regular Creek OBH-11 doesn't have great reviews on this board. Sure better then nothing but if you can look in to the Special Edition version. It should have greatly upgraded components and a much better power supply. But it sure is more then the $100 you want to spend. Thats the one I have and I really like it. I use it with a large selection of cans and varies types of music. I can't give you any advice on the META42 since I never heard it.

The standard OBH-11 is a perfectly good amp, and a very good value at $100. I think you'd have to spend 2.5 to 3x that much to improve. It works well with the Sennheisers too. I would go for it.

I very much did not care for the combination of Creek and Grado. Creek sounded vailed and slow. Too warm and weighted towards bottom too much for Grado. IMHO.

OTOH, cans like K501, it complemented K501's lean tonal balance and seems to add more flesh on the bones. ( albeit, frequency extremes still get rough )

I used to have the OBH-11SE.

It was good for the price I paid. At times, it sounded a bit analytical. I used it with the HD600's.

Can't remember much more about it though, although I can safely say that the Corda HA-1 impressed me much more.
