I recently bought the Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic soundcard, do I still need an amp to drive my Senn. HD595? Will an amp improve the sound significantly? Thanks in advance

There are some that can give you a fantastic recommendation but I'm not yet one of those.

I could say the pimetia or bithead but I wouldn't want to say because I haven't heard them and don't know how they compare to non-diy amps. You might be able to get more for your money somewhere else.

I do believe you'd see some improvement. Whether or not it's worth it is up to you. If you are happy with them unamped then you could always wait and save up.

That should get you started though.

I think a used hornet would really be a lot of fun with HD595s but with a 50 ohm requirement you don't NEED an amp, but you will see subtle improvements. Whether these improvements are worth 200 dollars is subjective. Its a slippery slope
