Creative SoundBlasterX AE-9

I went from a ae-5 to ae-9 and the difference was not that big of a difference. But once I swap the opamp on the ae-9 to the Burson vivid v6 the difference was dramatic. Music and sound separation and detail increased dramatically on all the headphones I own. My headphone list goes from a hifi man 400i, beyerdyamic dt990, b&w p9 and Audeze lcd-4. Listening done on aa flat eq in direct mode in the ae-9 setting and music source is from tidal.

Thanks that is probably the only real information I have read around the net confirming the main differences between AE-5 and AE-9, otherwise general reviews are just saying no real difference between the 2 products or not anything worth the price difference.

So in the AE-9 there are 2 Dual and 2 Single opamp right?
Can I put x4 Dual or I'm gonna fry the soundcard? D:

Also confused so your not the only one.

From my limited or maybe incorrect understanding of it Timber wolf meant

V6 Vivid:
Single X 2 for $70

Then add
V6 Vivid
Dual x 2 for $130

and then add $20 for the extension x 2 making it $220

I could be wrong so perhaps wait for one of the others to confirm it, last thing on this planet you want to do is fry a £300 sound card let alone $220 dollars of Addons or worse watch $500+ sound equipment in smoke !

On the burson site there is the combo for the ZxR.
It says 2 Single and 2 Double
https://www.bursonaudio.com/creative-sound-blaster-z-zx-zxr-upgraded-with-supreme-sound-v5-op-amps/

There is a discount, 160 full package + the extensions (20$)

Thanks that price is much better just to confirm this one here right?:
Creative Sound Blaster V6 Package Deal (V6 Vivid Dual x 2, V6 Single x 2) $215 $160

From the reviews on their site and ytube many are preferring the Vivid.

Did you go for them in the end and try them? am still pondering to try the AE9 out

I still have to buy them because I'm not sure if they are correct with the AE-9.
In this forum seems like no one can answer this or maybe give an help for installing the opamps.

According to https://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=200223&c

"The bundled pair on the left is the 2nd stage single DIP op-amps (NE5534AP) while the bundled pair on the right is the 1st stage dual DIP op-amps (JRC2114D)."

So two single DIP, and two dual DIP, and must be replaced as pairs.

Finally nraymond, thank you for your input.
So the package is correct. Let's try them.
Just to help out this is straight from burson

Thank you for your email and support. The AE-9 uses the same opamp combination as the ZXR sound card. So, you will need 2 dual and 2 single opamp.

Please come to our special opamp package deal page here to order for your card and enjoy a discounted rate: https://www.bursonaudio.com/creative-sound-blaster-z-zx-zxr-upgraded-with-supreme-sound-v5-op-amps/

Warm regards

Dennis

NE5534 is single opamp and the JRC2114 is dual opamps.

Warm regards

Dennis

Hope this clears thing up for every one

How are you enjoying the AE-9 with the Bursons ? Did you feel it was the right choice, I tend to listen to music and only tv/film but come from SBZ, AE-5 series so AE9 has always been on my radar.

Your picture is correct. I replaced them with all vivid v6. I actually enjoyed them alot more over the stock opamp. It really open up the details in music. The effect are most noticeable on cymbals. The clarity and detail are amazing compared to stock.

thanks that is good new, very tempted on the AE9 but Creative have said X-fi Sound cards are around the corner also.

Question is should I upgrade to ae-9? How is the optic out on ae-9 performs

How does the ae-9 work so far? Are there any problems with the driver? I never experienced issues on the ZXR but after trying the new ones (like x7) there were some issues with the driver at some point. Can someone confirm this for the ae-9 or does it run flawlessly?

For the most part it appears pretty stable and ok but keep an eye on Creatives support forum and page here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/SoundBlasterOfficial/

Also see here they had some audio drop outs on some pc configurations and released a beta driver for the AE9:

https://www.reddit.com/r/SoundBlasterOfficial/comments/dh3wai/ae9_ae7_beta_driver_available_101219/

Creative does get plenty stick for buggy drivers and they do seem to take a while to update or fix drivers my AE5 driver update in-between was almost I think 8 months, but I am one of those users that never really had creative software or driver issues too much, the odd creative crash once in a blue moon can almost be ignored imo, the most part I found creative drivers stable.

Thanks for the informations. Iam using a Soundblaster ZXR since a few years without any problems. After Ive installed Windows 10 it causes several crashes, so I returned back to Windows 8. Since then i have no problems. I had some other Creative cards before and i never experienced much problems with their drivers too. The X7 had some menue problems while switching
throug the gadgets. But it wasnt a big problem. I think we had almost the same expirience with creative cards. Iam just a bit careful since this isnt a 50€ souncard.
