so i ended up picking up a pair and have no idea what the original ep630's sound like.

on first listen they are pretty darn muddy.

burned them in overnight with pink noise and boy did the highs open up. they extend more than the fx66's which seem to have a peak in the 10khz range. however, the midrange is more recessed, but they do isolate more than the fx66's (which have an opening) along with more bass at lower volumes.

more impressions later

do they look the same? i'll get a picture of the box soon, what are the general sonic impressions of ep630's?

ah ok, well i just remember people saying that the fx66's crushed them, i dont really think so, but well i am a lover of highs, as yeah, i've grown annoyed of my e4c's and e500's but i wish these had some mids. from what i've read, i just thought they'd be less detailed, less extended, and a lot muddier. but maybe thats because i don't listen at high volumes.

and how to get rid if microphonics:

I agree, the sound signature is the same as with the EP630. Likely just a model number shift done each year, or perhaps made in different countries/factories?
