This headphone can throw down with the SRH840, M50, HD380, and DT770, so yes the Oyaide FiiO cable is worth a try.  Not that I would bother with it anyway.  =p
The right channel cable going through the headband would bottleneck the sound on the right side, resulting in the left channel sounding noticeably better than the right.

I think I will eventually order the momentum cable.
I have to eventually order new HM5 pads that is why I thought about the Fiio cable because it is 35 bucks right now. I wanted the angled NVX100 pads but I am not paying that massive shipping cost. (shipping is almost the same amount as the pads.)

I wish the MadDog Alpha pads fit because it becomes a more interesting headphone with them. The mids get pushed right up. Having to hold them on though sucks. Back to the HM5 pads. I just don't like the fit of the stock pads.

  Hi,
Did you receive & try the new cable yet?
Thanks!

I Just received the cable 30 minutes ago. Pretty fast from Hong Kong to Europe actually...in a few days :)

Well, the cable is SO much better than the stock cable. No more distortion due to built-in volume control. The 2.5mm end on the headphone fits perfectly! Finally the CAL2 feels solid. Ive always hated the stock cable.

I don't believe in "cable magic", and also don't think they make a HUGE difference in sound quality, but this cable actually DOES deliver better sound, because it's a "clean" cable without volume control.

I would recommend everyone to try the HD598 cable or maybe the Momentum cable.

barely able to snap a pair of beyerJmoneypads on ... the flanges are just clipping onto 1mm on two or 3sides.
BUT the sound leaves me no doubt we have a pair of good clear drivers inside those cups.
and the bass can be very firm n slamming.
Took it out.

Tried the Alphapads on ...its almost impossible to fit the extra wide flanges of the pads onto the thinwidth plastic holding ring..
so i gave up. :p

Put back the original pads...
one day i will try to mod the innercups :p

Received the CAL!2 just over a day ago.
Straight out of the box sound was nice & luscious...
They have been burning-in now since then: I'll see what happens.
Still undecided between CAL2 and MOE, but MOE (even though more "crispy") are certainly much much less confortable.

In my quest for a portable replacement for my former Denon ah-d2000 I think I'm getting closer.
I've tried the: Denon dn700 DJ, AKG 545, Beyers dt1350, v-Moda but none of them got close......

I got the silver plated one a few weeks ago with my purchase of CAL2. I'm no cable guy but from the stock cable the SQ is noticeably better for me. The silver plated cables are very stiff. It's slowly getting easier to bend but that's a fair warning. If anything, I would go for the black copper wires.
