I have become fascinated with the idea of keeping a catalog of my music online. I have looked at RYM (rate your music) and that looks pretty cool. I feel really dumb, but I can't figure out how to add albums to my collection.

Anybody into this?

If you're on a PC: Create a text file, name it whatever you like, but with the extenstion "bat", then put the following in it:

tree /A e:\music\mp3 > mp3.txt

tree /A e:\music\flac > flac.txt

replace the paths with wherever your music is. If you only have one location, delete one of the lines. Then just make the resulting text files accessible to whoever you want online.

I like RYM personally. Although it is a pain to catalog stuff at first. Basically what you have to do is browse to the release (usually by looking up the artist, then clicking on the appropriate release), then click on the "I own this" button which will bring up another line of buttons below it where you can specify the format. If you wish you can also rate the release using the same page and add reviews.

You can also use go! - Rate Your Music to add everything, but I've found its easier to just browse through the release pages artist by artist as described above.
