hi,
I  was very happy to find some high end headphones available in my country (Morrocco).
And it's not easy to buy stuff online there. But price are disturbing...
 
So I  visited a store , and here's what I  remind (I  converted price to $, and rounded them) :
 
senn    hd800  1400 $
denon   d5000  1200 $
denon   d2000   600$
monster beats studio  500$ (everyone seems happy with the imitation available  on black markets for 120$)
senn hd25 II  (addidas) 300$
senn pmx680i (addidas)  95$
koss porta pro "black beauty" 50$
 
So which headphone would you find interesting , knowing it's not easy to buy stuff there online ?
I'm just curious.
 
Also I  was frustrated between the overpriced denon d5000 (that doesn't need an amp, if I'm not wrong)
and the "normally" priced hd800, but no good amp available.
 
Here are the kind of amp they sell:

Rotel RA-06
Marantz PM6004
Denon TU-1510AE
 

These amp are heavy and bulky, I'm not sure they are adapted to work on a computer , and with a hd800.

I  thought that , but remain the problem of the amp. I  only have a xonar stx, and the amps they suggest doesn't seem suitable.
I  was furious when I  saw the price  of the D5000, I  was ready to spend 600$ , but not on the D2000.
I  bought the hd25 II  & the PMX680i at the end.

that's actually a pretty good price for the hd800, especially when compared to the d5000's inflated price (!!!)
 
but if you don't have the liquid to buy an amp with it, then that sucks.

One problem is the availability of amps , I've never heard of the amps they suggest, and I 'm not sure they are adapted.
Perhaps they offer a good price for the hd800, because no good amp is available.

For that given prices, I will buy HD800.

Ditto, also get the PortaPros for when you're out and about.

Edit: See if you can test the the HD-800s with the Rotel amp, its headphone out stage is probably pretty decent.

If I recall correctly, Sennheiser requires the HD800 to be sold at a fixed price, that is why it costs the same everywhere. If I were you, I would get it over the D5000 even without an amplifier. That is, unless some isolation is needed.
