Hi all,

I'm making a few cmoys using Tangent's recommended CP-43502PM (from Digikey) 1/8" jack. I used my multimeter to try to figure out which terminal is which and got the following:

1 = Tip
2 = Ring
3 = Sleeve/Ground
4 = Sleeve/Ground also?

#4 is the one that confuses me. It is offset from the others. Do I need to do anything with it? Unfortunately, the datasheet makes no sense to my electronically-challanged brain.

Thanks.

That extra pin on the jack is intended for use with 4-conductor 1/8" mini plugs. Since you don't need it, just leave it disconnected. That jack isn't isolated though, so once a 1/8" plug is inserted, the metal casing will still ground. If, however, you want the jack to ground to the case for RF shielding purposes, use the 4th pin as your ground pin rather than the 3rd so that the jack is always grounded to the case rather than just when a plug is inserted.
