amazon canada has it for $1,671.00

Checked the Amazon Canada site and they had one source who wanted over $1,600.00 for it.  A little to steep for me :)
Ebay Canada has it but again over priced.  Think I will take a pass on this one.

My experience with Cowon has been mixed.  I had a D2 that was great, lasted almost 7 years before it finally died and I was able to buy it in Canada.  Both Canadian retailers that carried Cowon products dropped it shortly after that.  When I asked why the told me Cowon was impossible to deal with and not worth the hassle.

Replaced the D2 with the C2 which was a total nightmare.  After two months would not hold a charge, contacted Cowon and had to ship it to them at my cost for repair.  Six weeks later I got it back only to find it wasn't mine.  Cowon insisted it was but it was full of hebrew folk music (not really my taste).  It seemed to work fine so I deleted the music and loaded my own.  Less than 7 days later the + volume button got stuck and the player was locked at max volume.  Contacted Cowon again and this time insisted they pay for the return shipping.  They agreed and emailed me an RMA label and I took it to FedEX to ship it back.  I had to pay for the return shipping box.   Apparently Cowon did not do the RMA properly because customs would not allow it into Korea.  Eventually several weeks later it was returned back to me unrepaired.  Cowon tried another RMA and this time it made it through customs to a local postage depot.  According to the tracking info it sat their for 7 days and no one from Cowon bothered to pick it up. Contacted Cowon and asked why they did not pick it up, they claimed they were not notified.  Long story short they never did pick it up and once again it was returned to me.  Contacted Cowon again this time insisting they give me a refund as it was still under warranty.  Cowon refused and then told me if I still wanted it fixed I had to pay this time to return it for repairs as it was costing them each time they did an RMA.  I of course refused as I was already out of pocket for alot more than what the C2 was worth.

I bought a headphone extension cable with a volume control on it so I could adjust the volume but it sounded like crap.  Less than a month later the screen died and I ended up throwing it out.  Cowon was dead to me after that.   I continued to follow Cowon products over the next few years but never pulled the trigger.  This Plenue D peaked my interest but as it will cost me about twice what the C2 did to import and given my past experience with Cowon I have to take a pass.  Fiio is working on the X series DAP's right now so I will wait to see what they come up with.  I can buy and service Fiio products in Canada now so a lot less risk than buying Cowon products

Not sure how any of this relates to the new D, guess we will have to wait 7 years from now. By that time I'll want something new anyways.

It goes to the quality of the manufacturer and how they handle customer support.  Everything is great until something goes wrong with a product, that is when you find out what Cowon is all about.  I am wary of dealing with a company that can't even handle a simple RMA.  I am not telling you not to buy the Plenue D or that it isn't a good product just making people aware that Cowon's customer support isn't very good based on my experiences with them.  I worked in audio sales for a long time so I know the importance of customer support.  It also says something to me when retailers don't want to carry Cowon products because of how bad the company is to deal with.

The Cowon global site still lists the same two Canadian dealers who haven't carried their products in years.  On the off chance either one started carrying the Cowon products again I checked their sites and no Cowon products are listed.   I also visit both retailers stores in Toronto regularly so I know they don't stock them in store either.  To me it is pretty bad when a manufacturer can't even keep track of who sells their products.

I hope you enjoy your Plenue D for years to come and that you never need to deal with Cowon customer support.

By any chance any of you owned or still has the Fiio X3 (1st Ed)? Can you do a quick SQ comparison please?

Hello,

Own both, have been using X3 for almost two years, first as a stand alone DAP, then connected to E12A using line out, and now as a transport feeding iBasso D14 via coaxial.

As a stand alone player, and when both players are in 'Normal' mode or with EQ off, I feel the Plenue D sounds more open, or more neutral. Driving power is more with the X3. Overall clarity seems to be more on the Plenue D, as opposed to slight graininess on the X3.

But finally I feel the Plenue offers more customisability with its JetEffect EQ options, versus the hardware bass and treble controls on the X3.

Hope this helps, cheers.

This definitely helped! Thanks for the quick comparison.

So to sum, as stand alone DAP - the D wins in SQ. But in terms of expandability (as tranport) the X3 wins. D wins again in terms of EQ options.

Thanks a lot again. Need to decide if i should go the cheaper or a little bit expensive option.
