ye-es. I think it's important to remember the evolution here - the M3 was a beauty of design, and smaller than an ipod. I very nearly got one, but the cost was a bit too high for me. The X5 (apart from being a big gas-guzzling 4WD thing) has lots of bells and whistles, that the M3 didn't. So I think it was always likely that an M5 would come along - the surprise is just that it took so long

I just think the M5 looks like an awesome player. Right now I have a H120 and I really like the B&W screen. It is just so much easier to see than a color screen in the daylight, and I really think that the whole avi watching capabilities are just a gimmik.

I am really glad to see a stripped down player with lots of compatibility being released, now only if it had gapless....

Is the m5 the same audio hardware minus the screen as the x5? I personally don't care about the screen. If I want portable video, I have a laptop and a psp. I just want a high quality music reproduction. A simple black and white lcd display will suite me just fine.

fair enough.....

get this for a price scheme in UK:

PSP value pack: £180 ($316) ($312)
PSP games: £30 - £40 ($52 - $70) ($40)
iaudio X5 20gb: £250 ($439) ($299)
iaudio X5L 20gb: £275 ($482) ($329)
iaudio X5 30gb: £290 ($509) ($349)
iaudio X5L 30gb: £300 ($526) ($379)

the prices in bold is a straight conversion from UK pounds to USD. The 2nd list of prices is the actual price I've found the official retails price; i.e amazon.com price for PSP and Cowon price for X5

going by that, if I bought a X5 from UK webstore, I could only afford a X5 20gb, possibly a X5L 20gb. However if I was in US I could even afford an X5L 30gb since they'd only be $50 diff?

I'm aware of various import sites offering better deals on the PSP....my main point was the extortionate prices of the iaudio X5 line on UK webstores.

For each of the iaudio X5 line, we in the UK are paying approximatly $150 more than our US counterparts.

No high street retailer I'm aware of has the X5 line available....so webstores only need to pay for shipping fees and storage fees. Plus extra for profit. Thats assuming Cowon don't have a factory in Europe.

So $150 = £85. I'll call that an extra £50 for above costs, which is being quite generous. £35 goes to who? Cowon? or the webstores? Certainly comes from UK customers wallets....

Damn I feel your pain, any chance of importing U.S. version and not paying a tax? Shippings got to be less than the U.K price hike.

import tax would be no more than £20...bearable - thats what import tax on a PSP value pack costs if you're not friends with your postman
