Much hype around this supposedly optimized D2+...

Here's a seller describing Cowon's latest hatch:

As my search on head-fi didn't turn out anything, I dared start a new thread for this asking for initial impressions and some practical info from those early birds on head-fi, who got this already...

I am espsecially keen on rockboxing and customizing experiences ...

Thanks for posting

I wonder if it sounds the same as C2, or they kept the D2+ signature. The problem with D2+ and C2 was their soundstages are rather narrow, they sound a touch congested, especially if the IEM already suffers from a narrow stage. Overall they aren't bad little players, if you can get them for the right price. A new UI would of been welcomed.

To me it looks like Cowon are just using up left over bits and pieces, nothing new here.

Back to a spinning disk on the playback screen.

Hi there,
i use this thread to ask if is it possible to install the D20 firmware on the old D2!
Would it be useful? Are there differences between the two firmwares (except for the different bbe version and the loudspeaker settings, I suppose..)

bit of a bump here was just looking at this and couldn't see the chipset used. managed to find the this info on the Rockbox site thankfully
 Just for comparison here's the

  1. CPU - Telechips TCC7801 - see TelechipsInfo
  2. Audio codec - Wolfson WM8985

  1. CPU - Telechips TCC7901 - see TelechipsInfo, TCC79xx_DataSheet_V1.03-090123.pdf
  2. Audio codec - Wolfson WM8960 WM8960_1.pdf

WM8985  info http://www.wolfsonmicro.com/products/audio_hubs/WM8985/
WM8960  info http://www.wolfsonmicro.com/products/audio_hubs/WM8960/

Anyone know offhand if this is/should be a major or noticeable difference to warrant replacing a D2. I can't see much though I am not well versed here. Just a slight 2.5 db SNR difference in the ADC rating.

If I could get a D2 with a bit more resolution/clarity approaching the Colorfly C3 it would be nice

Do note that this Cowon has the Wolfson 8960according to pictures and info here. (this is the same that the C2 uses... meh!)

Not sure if there's a difference.

Also, it seems it uses "normal" SD cards instead of microSD like on the C2. The writter on the review says that some people have succesfully used 128GB SD cards... I'm not sure if that's correct but that's what I could get via translate. Some useful info there...
