Which one is better for groovy rock/metal lower tuned music?

What about their EQ capabilities, power, hiss...?

Which high end quality IEM would be best for D2 and which for 810?

Thanks.

Well I'm using a D2 with Triple.Fi's, with tracks encoded in FLAC. The sound is amazing with flat EQ. No hiss noticeable.

The D2 is cold in comparison to the Sony. The Sony's great warmth is much better for rock and metal IMHO. Both have great EQ abilities, the D2 has a ton of power (which you won't need with IEMs). For your music selction I would definitely suggest the Sony:

Sony NWZ-A818

Has that Sony got an SD slot? 8GBs is beginning to look paltry with big SDHC cards. Especially when 32GB cards aren't $300.

Your sig should be, 'too loud' btw.

Sorry to steal the thread, but which genres of music would the D2 be better for then?

Jazz? Classical?

D2 makes even John Tesh sound good.

Best music for the D2 is small combo jazz, vocal + acoustic. This player sucks for metal and classical due to narrow and distant soundstage, and also limited resolution of the trebles. However, I still prefer overall D2's presentation than Sony's. The only good thing about Sony is Bass. Well extended, bodied, authoritative. Midrange is dark, dull and blurry, trebles are polite and unprecise. However, Sony might be good for some IEMs, but not for all due to noise.
Teclast T39 is very good player for IEMs - practically no noise, wide soundstage, dark but colorful sound with great imaging and precise highs.

Download something like MediaMonkey or EAC (both free)...in WMP, FLAC is not an option IIRC, but WAV (lossless bit for bit) is (er, I think?)

MediaMonkey is pretty cool with a much shallower learning curve than EAC IME.
